Song of the Day : 田馥甄 Hebe Tian – 超級瑪麗 Super Marie

During those days of my hopeless attempt in learning the Chinese language (learning Chinese through songs is quite helpful), I discovered this interesting song about unrequited love, admiration and self-appreciation. It’s a narrative song about an ant that fell in love with a cat and that distance between them. I learned something from this song and that is: never to fall in love with a cat especially if you are just a mere ant. Because even if you’ve crossed that distance, some things just won’t happen. People change, they come and go and what you’ll get is not what you really expected. Appreciate the beauty around and that beauty in the distance is sometimes better appreciated only from a distance.

TRANSLATION:

There was once an ant named Marie
Marie fell in love with Charlie from across the street.
Unfortunately Charlie was a cat who only thought about the fish in the river.

Only a short distance apart but poor Marie couldn’t even get across.
Overlooking Charlie who’s busy eating fish in the arms of someone.

On the road, every car is going their separate ways, everyone is hurriedly going somewhere. Is there a purpose? Should there be a purpose like Marie the ant?

One day Marie got worried.
She saw that Charlie had a new neighbor named Jasmine.
Jasmine’s name sounded so nice that even Charlie forgot to eat fish.

It seems like a short distance is sometimes really hard to cross.
But once crossed, Will Charlie be just as beautiful as she thought?

On the road’s sunrise and sunset, people come and go.
Marie raises her head and discovers that there’s scenery everywhere.

The sun rises and the sun sets. People come and go.
Marie occasionally raises her head and realizes that when you use your heart to admire, you can see a good scenery everywhere.

Actually a short distance is sometimes really hard to cross.
But once crossed, Will Charlie still be beautiful in her eyes?

Marie was so happy. She followed the road and kept walking.
She met Harry, Andy and Bobby, they were all interesting.
So she also allowed herself to be interesting.

Actually, sometimes there’s really no need to cross that short distance.
When you see another beautiful scenery
it’s better to just keep it in your heart.

The sun rises and the sun sets. People come and go.
Marie raises her head once in a while to see herself
In other people’s eyes, she can be a beautiful scenery too.

Actually, sometimes there’s really no need to cross that short distance.
Even the most beautiful scenery will disappear in your sight.
